Tribal Openwork Metal Vase / Lantern Sleeve

Nikunj BihariTribal Openwork Metal Vase / Lantern Sleeve
This sculptural cylinder is a celebration of negative space. Handcast in a warm antique-bronze tone, the sleeve features diagonal bands that crisscross into a dynamic lattice, accented with rope and triangle borders. Use it as a vase sleeve around a slim glass insert for flowers, as a lantern cover over a votive/LED candle, or as a standalone art object that throws mesmerizing shadows on your table or wall.
Design language
The geometry draws from tribal basketry and Dhokra metal tracery: diagonals suggest woven strength, bands cinch the form at thirds, and border chevrons add cadence. Because the sides are open, the piece engages with light—sunlight paints patterns by day; candlelight creates intimate shadow-play by night.
Handcraft process
Each piece is sand-cast in a brass alloy, then hand-chased to sharpen the rope and chevron relief. Artisans file and soften touch points, apply an antiquing wash to settle in grooves, and seal with wax to protect the patina. Minor variations in line thickness and patina depth are proof of a human hand at work and make your piece one-of-a-kind.
Usage ideas
Vase sleeve: Slip a slim glass or metal cylinder inside and style fresh stems or dried botanicals.
Lantern cover: Place over an LED or tea-light in a safe holder; the lattice throws beautiful shadows.
Desk or shelf accent: Style solo, or as a pair flanking books or art.
Care & safety
For live candles, always use a separate heat-safe glass inside and never leave unattended.
Dust with a soft cloth; avoid harsh chemicals. Patina will deepen gracefully.
Indoor use recommended; if outdoors, keep dry.
